Water spinach 空心菜 from Rice Bowl Cafe in Austin, Texas - one of my favorite Chinese veggies - the other is snow pea leaves 豆苗
Salt Lick BBQ family style! This BBQ joint has been on so many travel shows I’ve lost count. Family style includes all you can eat sausage, pork ribs, and brisket. Also sides like home baked bread, cole slaw and potato salad which are seemingly devoid of mayo.
Salt lick sauce is very sweet and teriyaki based and comes in hot and mild varieties. You can find the sauce bottled in stores around the Austin area and in the airport
Pork Belly at Trace at the W in Austin, Texas. The pork belly was melt in your mouth goodness and it was paired with grilled pineapple and pumpkin puree. Some of the little pineapple bits were pickled and spiced with lemongrass and white pepper.
It was amazing and tasty! I would go back to the Trace for this.
Chicken and Rice dish from Rice Bowl Cafe. Panko battered chicken steak pounded flat and deep fried, served with a dipping sauce and rice. Rice bowl is pretty authentic Taiwanese food - I really like this place and the owners are really nice.
It’s at the corner of Braker and Lamar, near Pho Danh and a closed supermarket. Please support them! I don’t think they are seeing too much traffic currently. They hand make their own noodles it’s a GREAT value.
The breakfast pizza at Bola Pizza, which uses a traditional wood fired oven on a trailer! The people there are super friendly and they have some great recipes.
This one has panceta and a farm fresh egg cracked on top. yum!
Other favorites include the Truffle Daisy (lots of truffle oil) and the garlic two times. These guys put a ton of love into their pizzas and you can taste it!
Chicken rice and drunken noodles at Thai Fresh. The Chicken Rice is a slightly drier version of the Singapore classic and the sauce on the side is much more spiced than the classic too. It’s an interesting home cooking type chicken rice.
The drunken noodles were spicy but good. I like Thai fresh but don’t really like how everything is sitting behind a counter then reheated.
That said, the fresh Pad Thai was pretty awesome ( we got some when it first came out ) - very fresh ingredients used.
